The CerezenTM Device

No.5 Dental is the first practice in the South East to offer the revolutionary new CEREZEN™ DEVICE to banish jaw pain, grinding and headaches caused by a condition known as TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder)

TMJD causes jaw pain and associated symptoms, such as the grinding of teeth and headaches, for millions of people worldwide every day. The traditional form of treatment for this has been to prescribe a bite splint, but now No. 5 Dental Care is offering this high tech solution to its patients.

The Cerezen™ Device is a medical device that treats the TM joint at its nearest access point – the ear canal. It consists of two custom-made, hollow inserts that rest in the outer part of the ear canal. There is no interference with hearing, and they can be worn 24 hours a day as well as being comfortable and discreet with a lifetime warranty.

The shape of the ear canal changes when the jaw is opened or closed through movements such as chewing, smiling, and speaking. The Cerezen™ device uses this anatomical change to provide a unique near field treatment for TMJD. It encourages the patient to favour the “open bite” position, minimising the tendency to clench the jaw and tense the surrounding muscles.

The impressions are taken at the practice by Audiologist Giselle Flower

“As an audiologist who spends a great deal of my time taking ear impressions, I was thrilled to get involved with Cerezen. Because the device sits in the ear canal it requires a deep ear impression to show the contours of your ear and its unique size and dimensions. As I have been a qualified audiologist since 1997 I am able to bring my wealth of experience of ear impression-taking into the world of dentistry.”

“The procedure is carried out in the dental practice and is easy and painless. I look closely into the ear canal, insert a soft cotton dam to protect the ear and then push putty into the ear to take a precise cast of the exact shape of the ear canal. The putty is quick drying and so the whole experience is simple and hassle free. Of course if there is too much wax present then the impression can’t be taken successfully. In this instance I always carry my micro suction equipment with me and can perform a comfortable wax irrigation procedure on the spot too.”

“A careful history of any ear related issues are discussed with the client and I can also advise on cleaning the Cerezen device.”
